An Introduction to Critical Race Theory

America was founded on the idea that all individuals are created equally under God, a principle that has led to our unrivaled success as a nation. In America, your race does not define your success, your character and work ethic does. In his revolutionary speech in 1963 Martin Luther King famously stated, “I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character.” 1

The Constitution was founded on the idea of complete racial equality, but Martin Luther King saw that America was not abiding by its own standards.  In protesting America’s racial inequality peacefully, King was greatly instrumental in bringing about civil change.  However, what we saw from civil rights activists in 1963 is entirely different from what we see from many activists today. Instead of seeing progress in regards to racial healing, we are witnessing a complete regression.

Today, white Americans are taught that regardless of their character, they were born at an advantage over minorities and are “privileged” because of their skin color. In contrast, if you are born black you are automatically at a disadvantage and will find it difficult to succeed. An academic idea called Critical Race Theory (CRT) is largely responsible for the nationwide racial division we are witnessing. As defined by Britannica, Critical Race Theory “is the view that the 'law and legal institutions are inherently racist and that race itself, instead of being biologically grounded and natural, and is a socially constructed concept that is used by white people to further their economic and political interests at the expense of people of colour.'” 2  The driving ideology behind CRT should strike concern into anyone who believes in the founding principles America was built on. CRT seeks to entirely destroy all American institutions, something Black Lives Matter has openly stated they are willing to do as well.  And instead of peacefully getting their opinions across, individuals who push for the spreading of CRT’s ideology actively shame others who push back against it.  We can see this is in the actions of radical BLM activists.

The teaching of CRT is becoming more and more prevalent in high schools and universities. The left knows that if they reshape how young Americans see race and economics, they will effectively control every American institution. The driving individuals behind CRT and BLM are Marxists who seek to reshape our society entirely.  We can actively fight back against the left by standing up for what we believe in. If we fail to do so, America will be unrecognizable.
