Hi! My name is Gabriel Elbert. I’m originally from sunny Southern California, born and raised, but have been living in Colorado for a few years now. Since being here, I’ve received my degree in engineering from CU Boulder (Go Buffs!). My hobbies include hiking/backpacking, fishing, gardening, going to Buffs football games, or really anything that allows me to get outside and enjoy the Rocky Mountains!
I am proud to be a 2020 graduate of the Leadership Program of the Rockies (LPR). LPR is a Colorado-based organization that identifies and educates emerging Colorado leaders in the principles of the American founding, the proper role of government, and capitalism. It was an amazing experience, and I was honored to be named as their 2020 Defender of Capitalism Award Winner, given to one student a year that can best profess and defend the moral case for capitalism.
A fun fact about me is that I am 50% Colombian! My mother immigrated to the US in the 1970s. It is because of her hard work and the opportunities that were afforded to her by our country, that she was able to make something of herself. Without capitalism, this wouldn’t have been possible. Without her, I wouldn’t be writing here today. I owe it to myself to be involved and to continue the fight so that this country can continue to be a beacon of hope and prosperity for all.
I believe that it is important that we continue to educate and inform ours and the next generations on the perils of Socialism. I hope to use my platform at YAAS to further this mission by approaching and explaining the issues objectively and compassionately. I’m honored to be on board, and I’m excited to work with this team!
